Women’s Tennis Downs Columbia on Day One of Harvard Invite

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Brown women’s tennis began its final event of the fall season with a 4-3 victory over Columbia at the Harvard Invite on Friday.

Brown took the first point of the match by winning doubles. Senior Ali Benedetto and junior Addison Ahlstrom took their match at first doubles (6-3), while junior Gabby Soliman and freshman Hannah Shen secured third doubles (6-4).

Winning in singles to take the match were Benedetto at first singles (6-2, 6-1), sophomore Vivian Miller at third singles (4-6, 6-3, 10-7), and Ahlstrom at fifth singles (6-4, 6-4).

“Ali and Addie continue to make strides as a doubles team, problem-solving well in clutch moments,” said Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser. “Gabby and Hannah played fearless doubles to come away with a solid win. Ali played disciplined and aggressive tennis in her singles match as she continues to grow her competitive maturity and gamestyle clarity. Vivian defeated a high-caliber player in her singles match today, competing very well and showing fight and resilience to close out her match in a match tiebreaker. Addie has been working hard in practice on increasing her ball quality and it is allowing her to stress her opponents and make them uncomfortable.”

Brown continues the Harvard Invite on Saturday.
