Women’s tennis earn two wins over Notre Dame


FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University women’s tennis earned three wins over the University of Notre Dame on Friday to kick off the Bonita Bay Classic.
 
The Paloma Goldsmith and Amelia Kopel duo posted FGCU’s only doubles win over the Fighting Irish, winning 6-3. 

Notre Dame took two out of three doubles matches against the Eagles and four of six singles battles.

In singles action, Fanny Norin pulled off a stellar victory in three sets, winning 6-1,1-6,10-5 over No. 53 Page Freeman. Lola Glantz was also in winner’s circle with 6-2, 6-4 victory over Carrie Beckman.

“Our team fought hard today against a top-20 Notre Dame team,” said assistant coach Kevin Miller. “Paloma and Amelia played very well and won their doubles match, and Fanny played a terrific match in beating the No. 53 player in the country.

“Lola played a great match and won in straight sets. We also had chances to win sets at No. 3 singles, No. 4 singles, and No. 6 singles”

FGCU will be back in action Saturday for day two of the Bonita Bay Classic as the Eagles are scheduled to face off against Purdue University starting at 4 p.m.
