Tennis legend Roger Federer joins Siya Kolisi in Springboks celebrations


Springboks captain Siya Kolisi had notable sporting figure Roger Federer join him as celebrations for South Africa’s Rugby World Cup success continue.

Federer, a 20-time Grand Slam winner, joined Kolisi’s Instagram Live as the captain shared his celebrations with his one million followers on the social media platform.

The Swiss tennis star is seen taking in the scenes from the top of the Springboks‘ tour bus.

“Amazing, Siya, well done again, enjoy it!” he said in a portion of the live feed that was snipped and shared on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

Federer was spotted in the stands during the final between the All Blacks and Springboks, which South Africa won 12-11.

The tennis star was joined by his South African-born and raised mother, Lynette, and his family at rugby’s showpiece event.

Federer’s mother married Robert Federer, who is Swiss-German and became a Swiss national.

After the final, Federer was allowed to join the Springboks in the changing room, where he interacted with the players and coaches.

The likes of Jesse Kriel, Andre Esterhuizen, Damian de Allende, Jean Kleyn and Kwagga Smith all took the opportunity to grab a picture with the tennis great.

Even Springboks director of rugby Rassie Erasmus went full fanboy and managed to a video message for his mum out of Federer.

Meanwhile, Faf de Klerk was pictured in his now iconic speedo with the South African nation flag printed on it.

Federer’s old rival, Novak Djokovic, was also spotted at the final at the Stade de France.

He was captured on camera sitting with British singer Rita Ora and her husband Taika Waititi, who is associated with the All Blacks’ new platform NZR+.

While Djokovic started the night in a suit, he ended it sporting a Springboks rugby jersey after full-time.
