Juneteenth and Pride Month celebrated with special events at Phoenix Art Museum


Phoenix Art Museum will commemorate Juneteenth and Pride Month with a variety of events and exhibitions in June, including a Pride Night celebration on First Friday and a closing date for the photography exhibition Widening the Lens.

On June 6, from 5 to 8 p.m., the museum will partner with Phoenix-based queer art collective thems. to host Pride Night, a First Friday event featuring music, art workshops, and performances. Highlights include DJ sets, in-gallery sketching, bilingual docent tours, and hands-on activities such as printmaking and poetry collage. General admission is free, and special exhibition tickets are available at a discounted rate.

Juneteenth festivities will take place on June 19 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with $10 admission for adults and students and $5 for youth. Evening programming includes an open mic hosted by local poet Rashaad Thomas, live music from Ashton Vaughn Charles, and community engagement with local organizations such as Lit Twist Bookmobile, Arizona Birthworkers of Color, and Taste of Melanin.

The museum’s current photography exhibition, Widening the Lens: Photography, Ecology, and the Contemporary Landscape, will close on June 15. The show explores the role of photography in addressing ecological trauma and our relationship to the environment.

Other events in June include:

  • 602 Day on June 1, with $6.02 admission for youth and seniors to honor Phoenix’s area code.

  • PhxArt Family Funday on June 29, offering free admission and family-friendly activities inspired by the exhibition The World of Anna Sui.

  • Weekly children’s programs like Storytime (June 5) and Create Playdate (Fridays in June), as well as art discussions, film screenings including Dr. Strangelove and Portrait of a Lady on Fire, and docent-led tours.

Ongoing programs include Pay-What-You-Wish Wednesdays, free general admission for Maricopa County Community Colleges students, and complimentary summer admission for active-duty military members and veterans through the Blue Star Museums program.
