{KXLG – Watertown, SD} The Friends of Artwalk are inviting the community to a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, June 2nd at 10:30 a.m. at Foundation Plaza to launch the 2025 Artwalk season in downtown Watertown officially. This year marks the 11th anniversary of the popular initiative that brings public art to the streets of the city.
The 2025 Artwalk features an exciting new addition at Foundation Plaza: a sculpture created by local artist Doris Symens Armstrong. “We’re thrilled to debut this new location, and even more excited that it features the work of a local talent,” said Joy Nelson, President of the Friends of Artwalk.
Nelson also expressed gratitude for the collective effort that makes Artwalk possible each year. “We’re so thankful for everyone who helps make Artwalk happen,” she stated, acknowledging the crucial support of sponsors, dedicated volunteers, and the enthusiastic community that embraces the art.
Adding a modern and interactive element to the experience, this year’s Artwalk also debuts Otocast. This audio tour allows viewers to hear directly from the artists about their inspiration and the stories behind their pieces. Each sculpture will feature a QR code on its nameplate, linking directly to the audio commentary. This innovative feature was made possible through a collaboration between Visit Watertown and the Friends of Artwalk.
Following the official ribbon cutting at Foundation Plaza, attendees are encouraged to take a stroll along the Artwalk, utilize the new Otocast audio tour, and enjoy complimentary cookies and lemonade provided by the Watertown Area Community Foundation.
The artwork featured in the 2025 Artwalk will remain on display throughout downtown Watertown until next spring.
