Tennis Finishes Fall Slate at Battle Down the Bayou – University of New Orleans Athletics


THIBODAUX, La. – The New Orleans Privateers men’s and women’s tennis teams wrapped up their fall season with a combined 14 wins between singles and doubles against competitors from Nicholls and Southern at the second Battle Down the Bayou.
 
WOMEN
The ladies set a solid tone in doubles winning three of their four matches over the two sessions on Friday. Tristanne Dechoux and Anastassia Kouchnareva were responsible for two of those wins. They scored a 6-4 win against Noemie Piquet and Carla Bouygues of Nicholls. They also beat Jessica Hess and Baluck Deang of Southern 6-4.
 
In singles, the Privateers had three victories on the day. Laurie Barendse battled through a tough set before sweeping through the second as she defeated Paris Washington of Southern 7-5, 6-0. Kateryna Kalistratova was in command as well in a 6-2, 6-4 win over Olivia Jenkins.
 
Ksenia Reznitskaya also earned a win in singles when she beat LaTesha Grant of Southern. Reznitskaya got a late service break in the second set to hold off Grant 6-3, 7-5.
 
The other doubles win came from Barendse and Reznitskaya as they didn’t drop a game in a victory over Washington and Kai Wince of Southern.
 
MEN
The men’s team had a combined mark of 8-3 on the day. Marcel Volz got things going early with a 6-4 6-3 victory over Quentin LaMothe of Nicholls.
 
The Privateers also had singles wins from Luke Joujan, Matthew Armbruster, David Tesic and Mark Armbruster. Joujan and Tesic combined to drop only four games as they both went on to win in straight sets in their singles matches.
 
The Armbruster brothers were both pushed to a third set and they both responded with resilient wins. Matthew beat Kotaro Masumura of Nicholls 10-8 in the third set super tiebreak. Mark defeated Whot Doumen 10-5.
 
In doubles, the Privateers secured three wins. Joujan and Marc Mail won 6-2 in the first session of the day. Tesic and Mark Armbruster paired for a 6-1 win while Volz and Matthew Armbruster also won their doubles match 6-1.
 
The Privateers will now turn their attention to the spring schedule which will be released soon.
