The secret is out with Cheney Express, the clearance grocery store part of the nearly 400,000-square-foot Cheney Brothers distribution center.

The clearance grocery store tucked away in Port St. Lucie’s Southern Grove offers shoppers discounted groceries both individually and in bulk, similar to wholesalers Costco Wholesale and Sam’s Club.

However, shoppers don’t need a paid membership to enter and shop at Cheney Express.

When you stop into Cheney’s, you’ll be met with an array of goods ranging from food to cleaning products to dishware. Prices will vary, and could end up being more expensive or affordable than at wholesalers or neighboring grocery stores, such as Publix and Aldi.

Here are some prices seen at Cheney’s Express between two recent visits:

  • 10 pounds of chicken breast: $38.50
  • 10 pounds of ground beef: $19.30
  • 8-ounce steak filet: $8.53
  • 12.75 pounds of center-cut pork loin: $23.97, but different prices were available for the same item
  • Gallon of milk: $3, and buy one, get one free
  • 3.45 pounds of salted butter: $3.45
  • 3.45 pounds of sliced pepper jack cheese: $5.18
  • 5 pounds of mozzarella cheese: $17.75
  • 12 packets of 12 10-inch flour tortillas: $3
  • 12-ounce bottle of Mexican Coca-Cola: $1.96
  • Eight garlic Texas toast slices: $3.13
  • 12-ounce IBC root beer: $1.17
  • 1.5-ounce bag of Lay’s classic potato chips: 52 cents

Cheney Express Port St. Lucie address, hours

Cheney Express is open six days a week, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.

The address is 1 Cheney Express Way, between Interstate 95 and Southwest Village Parkway. A security guard directs shoppers toward the parking lot, where the store is visible.

The store only accepts credit and debit cards.
