Actor and humanitarian-activist Gary Sinise will bring his band to Milwaukee to play a benefit concert for Skylight Music Theatre on the Summerfest grounds.

Sinise and his Lt. Dan Band will perform at 7 p.m. July 14 at the Aurora Pavilion at Maier Festival Park, the home of Summerfest. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets range from $40 to $150 (including VIP perks). They are on sale via smtmke.org/ltdanband or by calling (414) 291-7800.

The Lt. Dan Band is named after Sinise’s role in “Forrest Gump,” one of the more popular hits of his movie career. The band promises “high-energy covers and moving musical moments to audiences of all ages.”

The band is now an arm of the Gary Sinise Foundation, which supports veterans, first responders and performing arts. The foundation has supported several veteran-centered activities at Skylight.

Sinise also is a co-founder of Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre. He has credited directing “Tracers,” a drama created by Vietnam veterans, at Steppenwolf in 1984 with activating his interest in helping veterans.

The actor also has a personal connection to Skylight: He and Skylight artistic director Michael Unger are both products of Highland Park High School theater in suburban Chicago.
