- Former First Lady Michelle Obama has a new book, The Look, hitting shelves on November 4.
- In it, Obama wrote that she will explore her “lifelong journey with fashion, hair, and beauty,” recounting many of her looks and her experiences in them.
- Obama will be joined by her glam squad—her stylist, makeup artist, and hairstylists—to tell her story, as well as share never-before-published photographs.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama’s latest book will focus on her “lifelong journey with fashion, hair, and beauty,” Obama announced on Instagram on June 5.
“During our family’s time in the White House, the way I looked was constantly being dissected—what I wore, how my hair was styled,” Obama wrote on Thursday. “For a while now, I’ve been wanting to reclaim more of that story, to share it in my own way. I’m thankful to be at a stage in life where I feel comfortable expressing myself freely—wearing what I love and doing what feels true to me. And I’m excited to share some of what I’ve learned along the way.”
The book, called The Look, will be published by Crown Publishing Group and released on November 4. “Inside, you’ll find some of the outfits that have meant the most to me, but more importantly, the moments that I lived through in them—big and small, personal and political, historic and ordinary—that were as memorable as the clothes themselves,” Obama wrote.
The book will also introduce readers to her “thoughtful stylist” Meredith Koop, her “talented makeup artist” Carl Ray, and her “wonderful hairstylists” Yene Damtew and Njeri Radway, who all bring “their own story, heart, and perspective to this journey,” Obama added.

Obama’s publisher shared on Thursday that over 200 photographs—including some never-before-published snaps—will be included in the book, and a deeper dive into her looks will span the timeline of Barack Obama’s U.S. Senate campaign through the Obamas’ time in the White House and beyond. So many looks—from “colorful sheath dresses, cardigans, and brooches she wore during her time as First Lady to the bold suits, denim, and braids of her post-White House life and all the active looks and beautiful gowns in between”—are set to make it into the book.
“The Look is about more than fashion,” Obama wrote. “It’s about confidence. It’s about identity. It’s about the power of authenticity. My hope is that this book sparks conversation and reflection about the ways we can see ourselves—and the way our society defines beauty.”
