United Airlines reveals new collab to improve in-flight entertainment

CHICAGO — United Airlines passengers now have more ways to pass the time at 35,000 feet, thanks to a new partnership with Spotify.

The airline announced that travelers can now access more than 450 hours of music, audiobooks and podcasts through Spotify on over 130,000 seatback screens across its fleet. It’s the first time Spotify has brought audiobooks and video podcasts to an airline.

Under a new “Spotify” tab in the in-flight entertainment system, flyers can tune in to shows and podcasts like “Good Hang with Amy Poehler,” “The Dave Chang Show” and “The Comment Section with Drew Afualo.”

“Together, we’re giving millions of customers an entirely new way to experience and explore premium content from the world’s most popular artists, authors and podcasters –all while flying with the latest technology in the sky,“ Richard Nunn, CEO of MileagePlus at United, said.

The feature is already rolling out across more than 680 aircraft, and a dedicated Spotify channel will be coming soon.

And there’s more on the horizon: Starting in 2026, passengers will be able to log into their personal Spotify accounts through the seatback screen, picking up where they left off mid-flight.

Travelers on planes equipped with Starlink internet can already stream Spotify and other services gate-to-gate, as long as they log in with their MileagePlus account.

To mark the launch, United is offering up to 1,000 bonus miles to MileagePlus members who sign up for Spotify Premium, with the promotion running on the airline’s Kinective Media platform.

The collaboration is part of United’s push to make in-flight entertainment more personalized — and more like what passengers are used to on the ground.
