Lenoir Community College and KCCA Join Forces to House Art Labs in Downtown Kinston

Lenoir Community College (LCC) is proud to announce a new partnership with the Kinston Community Council for the Arts (KCCA) that will bring LCC’s Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts degree program into the heart of downtown Kinston.

Beginning this fall, LCC will utilize studio space within the KCCA building to host art labs including painting, sculpture, and other hands-on courses. While the curriculum remains the same, this move places students in a dynamic arts environment and strengthens the connection between the college and the local creative community.

“This partnership is an opportunity for our students to be exposed to the arts in downtown Kinston, and for community members to be exposed to our fine arts programs at LCC,” said Dr. Rusty Hunt, President of Lenoir Community College. “It’s a win-win for education and the cultural life of our city.”

The Kinston Community Council for the Arts, a longstanding advocate for the arts in Eastern North Carolina, welcomes the collaboration as a natural extension of its mission.

“We are thrilled to open our doors to LCC’s talented students and faculty,” said Sandy Landis, Executive Director of KCCA. “This partnership brings new energy into our space and reinforces downtown Kinston as a hub for creativity and learning.”

Art Instructor Tony Jackson, who will be teaching several of the courses at the KCCA facility, emphasized the value of the new setting. “Having our students work in a professional arts environment surrounded by galleries and working artists will be incredibly inspiring. It’s a unique opportunity to blend academic learning with real-world artistic engagement.”

The Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts degree at LCC prepares students for transfer to four-year institutions or for careers in the visual arts. With this new downtown location, students will benefit from expanded studio space and increased visibility within the local arts scene.
