The public was invited to an open house on June 5 to view the “Mother Nature” themed art exhibit displayed inside the various walls of City Hall, including inside the main conference room.
The Art @ City Hall was launched by Assistant City Manager Casey Lucius in August 2022, and it is hard to believe that it will soon celebrate a milestone of five years in August. It was meant to highlight Marco Island’s unique natural environment while celebrating local artists by displaying their works inside City Hall. Every three months, a new theme is planned and a call to artists is sent out soliciting artworks that align with the theme.
The first theme was “Roseate Spoonbills and before the exhibit transitions to the next one, the public was invited to view artwork and visit with the local artists. Past themes included “Storm and Sun,” “The Everglades,” “Wading Birds and Owls,” “Flora and Fauna of Marco,” just to name a few. Just like the current exhibit, all past themes emphasized nature – Marco’s natural environment and its unique beauty shared by a long list of local artists.
Mother Nature takes center stage at the Art @ City Hall Exhibit, on display through July 10th.
Artist and exhibitor Nancy Norman looks at Lynn Roberts’ series of fabric wall hangings.
The current exhibit, “Mother Nature,” is a theme that goes hand in hand with art. Marco’s stunning sunsets, local wildlife, flora and fauna, and its unique barrier island landscape present endless sources of inspiration to all artists as they transform nature into amazing works of art.
Marziano Gizzi is a new exhibitor at Art @ City Hall, expressing his creativity through scraps of discarded iron pieces that he finds or are donated to him. “Giz,” as he is called, is a welder with a studio in Goodland. For the Mother Nature Exhibit, Giz brought two scrap-metal pieces: a turtle that he welded together from horseshoes and a bigger floral piece.
Giz tells everybody in Goodland that if they have something made out of iron and they are going to throw it away, to just leave it at his garage. He enjoys challenging himself in creating funky pieces.

The current list of artists for Mother Nature is JoAnn Brandau, Edwin Cohen, Marziano Gizzi, Karen Swanker, Joseph Parisi, Lynn Roberts, JoAnn Sanborn, Mary Pat Palombo, Lynn Nathanson, Judith Chinski, Robert Kenedi, Adorable Monique, and Nancy Norman. This exhibit ends on July 10.
The next theme is “Reflections” and will begin July 11th. For additional information about how to participate in Art @ City Hall, contact Casey Lucius at [email protected].
