Cannes Film Festival Gives Leonardo DiCaprio Film ‘Biggest’ Standing Ovation

On May 20th, 2023, during the Cannes Film Festival, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Lily Gladstone debuted in Killers of the Flower Moon.

Variety says that the 3-hour-and-26-minute drama, which Martin Scorsese directed, got the longest standing ovation at the event so far, 9 minutes.

The screenplay by Eric Roth and Martin Scorsese, based on David Grann’s best-selling book, takes place in 1920s Oklahoma and tells the story of the Reign of Terror, a succession of violent murders committed against members of the oil-rich Osage Nation.

Even though the movie was long and started 45 minutes late, the crowd was so interested in it that they stood up and applauded for nine minutes.

While the Titanic star was there to promote his 2019 film Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, this was Scorsese’s first time back at the festival since 1985’s After Hours.

The outlet said Killers of the Flower Moon was the festival’s most anticipated and most popular picture. It was one of those times when Hollywood sent its brightest stars to the South of France to celebrate the art of filmmaking.

In addition to DiCaprio, De Niro, and Scorsese, Jesse Plemons and his wife, Kirsten Dunst, also walked the red carpet. Also, Tobey McGuire, who is friends with DiCaprio, came out in support.

Cate Blanchett, Francois Henri Pinault, Salma Hayek, director Michael Gracey, Naomi Campbell, Irina Shayk, Robbie Williams, and Riccardo Tisci were among the other famous people who showed up.
