Robbin Bain Gaudieri, better known as Robbin Bain, died at the age of 87.
Robbin Bain, the “Today Girl” who managed the fashion and beauty portions on NBC-TV’s morning show, died on October 21 in Southampton, New York. Her daughter claims she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Her public career began in 1959, when she was named Miss Rheingold, the most popular beer in the New York region at the time. She won $50,000 and used the money to tour Europe and the United States the following year.
She began modeling, appearing in ads for Revlon and Helena Rubinstein. She was also one of four ladies, known as “Portrettes,” who presented Jackie Gleason’s television variety show, The Jackie Gleason Show, in 1956 and 1957.
She changed her first name to Robbin early in her career to avoid confusion with actress Barbara Bain.
In late August 1961, Bain started as the “Today Girl” for NBC, sharing a desk with news anchor Frank Blair and host John Chancellor. That lasted two months, during which time Bain left owing to the pregnancy of her first daughter Dina.
Among the survivors are her daughters Lara and Dina, her husband Alexander Guadieri, stepson Alexandre Guadieri, and six grandchildren.
