She struck again just this week, while visiting a parents support group in Culemborg, in a wide-brimmed black velvet hat and a luxe, grey tweed dress from Dolce & Gabbana. It was topped off with black leather gloves and a black, architectural brooch. Even in monochrome, Queen Maxima shows flair.
What ultimately makes the Queen’s style so interesting, is that her choices still stay within the remit of her role. A navy trench dress is given zesty pops of (patriotic) colour with orange gloves and pumps and a simple white shirt is enlivened with a print maxi skirt and colourful accessories. A frock coat is worn in eye-bending geometric shapes and an evening gown is woken up in tactile, glittering fringing. All classic pieces are given an extra splash. The set formula of the royal wardrobe is, in Maxima’s orange-hued gloves, getting a vivacious shake up.
