CAA Women’s Basketball Tips Off Season on Monday
RICHMOND, Va. (Nov. 6, 2023) – The 2022-23 CAA Women’s Basketball season begins on Monday with a jampacked nine-game opening day slate.
The day starts 11 a.m. with Charleston hosting Pfieffer (FloHoops) and concludes with four games at 7 p.m., including the defending CAA Champions, Monmouth, visiting Rutgers (B1G+) and North Carolina A&T on the road at Georgia (SECN+). Northeastern also begins the year on the road, opening the Priscilla Edwards-Llyod era at Stonehill, while Campbell, Elon, Stony Brook, Towson and William & Mary have home contests on Monday.
Three teams begin their 2023-34 campaings on Tuesday as Hofstra visits VCU (6 p.m., ESPN+) and UNCW hosts the Apprentice School in its first game under the direction of Nicole Woods. Additionally, Hampton travels to Providence at 7 p.m. (FloHoops)
Drexel starts the season on Wednesday, hosting the defending MEAC Champions, Norfolk State (6 p.m., FloHoops), and Delaware is the final CAA team to begin the season, headlining a three-game slate on Thursday.

Kornegay-Lucas is the reigning CAA Defensive Player of the Year and was a First Team All-CAA selection last season The redshirt senior set career-best marks for points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals last season, leading the Tigers with 14.1 points per game on 39.7 percent shooting from the floor. Kornegay-Lucas ranked top-10 in the conference in points, rebounds and blocks per game, while ranking top five in assists and steals per game last season.

CONFERENCE NOTES:
TOWSON TABBED AS FAVORITES: After winning a share of its first regular season title in program history and advancing to the CAA Championship game last season, Towson was picked to capture the 2023-24 CAA Women’s Basketball title according to a vote of the league’s head coaches. The Tigers collected nine first-place votes and 163 points, followed by Stony Brook (139) and Northeastern (138), separated by one point, who received two first-place votes each.
CAA HOOPS IN THE MID-MAJOR TOP 25: CAA preseason favorite Towson was recognized in the initial reveal of the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 poll, ranking 19th. CAA Women’s Basketball has had at least one team ranked in the preseason poll for the past decade, while it marks Towson’s first time cracking the top 25 since the final poll of 2021-22.

DREXEL & TOWSON LOOK TO EXTEND POSTSEASON STREAKS: Drexel has reached postseason play in the NCAA Tournament or WNIT in 13 of the past 14 seasons, including nine straight. Meanwhile, Towson has made back-to-back appearances in the WNIT for the first time in program history. Last season, CAA Women’s Basketball sent more than two teams to the postseason for the second consecutive year and seventh time in the past eight seasons.
FOURTEEN STRONG: For the first time in conference history, CAA Women’s Basketball will feature 14 teams, adding Campbell for the 2023-24 season. The league expanded to 13 teams last season with the additions of Hampton, Monmouth North Carolina A&T and Stony Brook. The Fighting Camels come over from the Big South, where they won two regular season titles in the past four years.

TWO NEW HEAD COACHES: Two teams will have new head coaches on the sideline for the upcoming season. Nicole Woods takes over the reins at UNCW, and Priscilla Edwards-Lloyd is the new leader for Northeastern. Both are first-time head coaches, as Woods spent the past 10 years on the staff at Charlotte, where she most recently served as associate head coach. Edwards-Llyod joins the Huskies following two seasons as an assistant coach at Clemson University and five as the associate head coach at Providence.
