
Pottstown, Pa. (Nov. 6, 2023) – Alvernia University Assistant Director of Athletics and Head Women’s Basketball Coach Rayne deMarteleire and former Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach Kelly McCloskey were inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame – Tri-County Chapter in a ceremony held in Pottstown on Saturday evening.
The PA Sports Hall of Fame – Tri-County Chapter honors individuals who have made lasting and outstanding contributions to the greater Pottstown area through their athletic achievements.
Rayne deMarteleire, who was named the Head Women’s Basketball coach at Alvernia in 2019 and was promoted to an assistant athletic director in 2022, was a standout basketball player at St. Pius High School before going on to find success as a collegiate athlete at Widener University. At St. Pius, deMarteleire (formally Reber) ended her career as second all-time in scoring with 1,372 points. She was a four-time 1st team All-Area selection and a four-time District I champion, a PAC 10 Champion, and a Summit Rookie of the Year. At Widener, she was the MAC Rookie of the Year and a MAC Champion. She then started coaching at Rosemont College in 2014 and left Rosemont with a 73-58 record, a CSAC title, and a Coach of the Year honor before taking over as the head coach of Alvernia’s women’s basketball program. SInce joining Alvernia in 2019, deMarteleire has made two MAC postseason appearances, won the ECAC Championship in 2023, was the 2023 MAC Coach of the Year, and 2023 Region Three Coach of the Year. deMareleire will be entering fifth season on Wednesday as Alvernia hosts Penn State Brandywine in the first game of the 2023-24 season.
Kelly McCloskey, who was on the Alvernia staff from 2006 – 2018 before her passing in 2020, was a standout three sport athlete for Boyertown High School. McCloskey played lacrosse, field hockey, and basketball for the Bears. She was a First Team All-ChesMont selection in all three sports. She went on to play lacrosse at Temple University, where she was a three-time All-American. Her team made the NCAA Championship three times, including a trip to the final four. After college, McCloskey coached both field hockey and lacrosse as an assistant at Cabrini College. She then got her first head coaching job at Cedar Crest College, taking over both the field hockey and women’s lacrosse programs in 1998. In 2002, McCloskey was promoted to the Director of Athletics at Cedar Crest. In 2006, McCloskey joined the Alvernia staff as the Operations Manager and Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach. She held that position for 13 years and guided Alvernia to a school-record 12 wins in both 2010 and 2012. In 2012, Alvernia won an ECAC title under McCloskey’s leadership. McCloskey also served as the advisor for Alvernia’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and developed a leadership model for Alvernia student-athletes.
deMarteleire and McCloskey were honored alongside six other inductees in the Tri-County Hall of Fame Class of 2023.
