Few details have been released, but a GSP spokesperson said the incident began with an attempted traffic stop on Campbellton Road near Greenbriar Parkway at about 3:10 p.m. The driver did not stop and instead led troopers on a short chase that ended with a crash.
After the crash, “shots were fired,” the GSP spokesperson said. It is not clear how the gunfire was initiated or if anyone was injured. The GBI was asked to conduct an independent investigation into the incident.
Troopers and officers remained spread out across Atlanta’s Greenbriar and Southwest neighborhoods as the sun set, Channel 2 Action News reported.
According to the news station, a school bus crashed in the area due to the chase, but the GSP did not share any further information about the pursuit.
No other details have been released by either Atlanta police or the GBI.
