N.Y. man tracks down stolen car, shoots teen girls inside, police say

SYRACUSE, New York — A man tracked down a car stolen from a relative Sunday and opened fire on the vehicle, wounding three teen girls inside, police say.

Police say Michael Brown, 23, fled the area after the shooting but was later arrested by police. He is charged with attempted murder, two counts of assault, three counts of reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a firearm and criminal use of a firearm, Yahoo! News reports.

A news release from police says officers were notified just before 11 p.m. of the shooting by Shot Spotter, a gunshot notification technology. They were flagged down by people inside a Hyundai that had several juveniles inside. Police say three of the juveniles, two 14-year-old girls and a 16-year-old girl, had been wounded.

The two 14-year-old girls are expected to survive, but the 16-year-old girl, who was shot in the arm and stomach, is in critical condition, police say.

According to police, the Hyundai reportedly was stolen earlier in the night. The incident remains under investigation.
