Midwest Food Bank teams up with Kroger to help prepare holiday meals

PEORIA (25News Now) – A local nonprofit and a grocery store chain are joining forces to ensure people don’t have to worry about putting food on the table this holiday season. Midwest Food Bank and Kroger are combining their resources and dedication to make a positive impact.

Representatives from Kroger met for a press conference at the food bank’s warehouse in Peoria to announce the partnership. Midwest Food Bank was given a $15,000 donation from Kroger ahead of their Giving Tuesday campaign. Eric Halvorson, a Spokesperson for Kroger says as we approach the holiday season, the demand for aid from food banks can grow. “Every day we’re hearing about prices going up. How do we pay for groceries? We know that people are struggling, and we want to ease some of the burdens on them and ease some of the burden that food banks face as they try to put people together with nutritious food,”

$15,000 may not seem like a lot when it’s used to keep people from going hungry across the area, but Midwest Food Bank’s Chief Resource Officer Jada Hoerr says that money can turn into hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of meals. “We want to make sure that our neighbors in need have the food that they’re searching for and wanting to have food around the table during the holidays. So that’s $450,000 worth of food that will be provided to our community.”

Midwest Food Bank invites the public to lend a hand and join their Giving Tuesday Campaign on November 28th. For information on how you can help, you can visit Midwest Food Bank’s website.
