One juvenile was arrested during the investigation into the burglaries

One juvenile was arrested, and “several” car burglaries were investigated by the New Orleans Police Department Tuesday morning around 2 a.m. after neighbors on Sycamore and Burdette Street say nearly 50 cars were broken into. Police say the burglaries are being investigated in the 7800 block of Sycamore. They also say the juvenile was arrested because they had outstanding warrants, and they are looking into whether or not they are involved in the early morning burglaries. “It has happened to me four times in the last three years, twice in other neighborhoods, twice in this East Carrolton neighborhood, two times in the last month. Which you know is about $400, $450 each time it happens,” said Nathan Dutoit, who had his car broken into Tuesday morning. One of Dutoit’s neighbors caught the people breaking into cars in the act on surveillance footage. In the video, you can see multiple people smashing windows and looking through cars. “It’s not murder and nobody was hurt, but it changes the way you feel about being in your house,” said Beverly Cook, whose husband’s truck had its window smashed. The string of burglaries takes place just one day after the NOPD lauded a new proactive policing strategy in the Uptown area that resulted in multiple arrests.
