Mahoning County voters approved two levies Tuesday night – a renewal levy for the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board and a replacement levy for Mahoning County Children Services.
The 1.35-mill Mental Health and Recovery Board renewal levy will collect an estimated $5.72 million annually. The amount comes out to $36 for each $100,000 of the county auditor’s appraised value.
The levy will run for five years.
The final vote tally was 47,751 yes votes to 24,826 no votes.
The 1.85-mill Mahoning County Children Services replacement levy will bring in about $8.89 million each year. A household with a value of $100,000 would amount to about $56 per year for five years.
44,172 people voted to approve the levy.
Mahoning County Children’s Services spoke with 21 News last week about the need for the replacement.
“If you had a levy passed today that was bringing in ten dollars, twenty years from now, that levy would still bring in ten dollars but our expenses are now a hundred dollars,” Executive Director Richard Tvaroch said.
The department currently cares for more than 300 kids.
