BIRMINGHAM – UAB Men’s Basketball head coach Andy Kennedy announced the signing of JUCO guard Jaborri McGhee on Wednesday. McGhee is a 6’1″ guard from McComb, Mississippi who played at Winfield High School (AL) before playing his freshman season at Garden City CC (KS) and transferring to South Plains College (TX) this year.
“Really excited to have Jaborri join our program.” Andy Kennedy said, “He is a dynamic playmaker who has the ability to impact the game on both sides of the ball. We believe he is one of the best perimeter players in Junior College basketball!”

McGhee is averaging 21.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists while leading South Plains to a 3-0 start. He is shooting 54.1 percent from the field and 80.8 percent from the free throw line.
During his freshman season at Garden City, McGhee averaged 16.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game while shooting 46.6 percent from the field. He led the Broncbusters to a 21-9 record and an appearance in the Region VI Tournament.
At Winfield HS, McGhee earned ASWA 3A First Team All-State recognition while leading his team to the state championship game, where he scored 38 points. He averaged 28.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game during his senior season.
On the gridiron, McGhee was just as capable. He earned ASWA Honorable Mention All-State honors as a wide receiver during the 2021 football season at Winfield. ITG Next recognized McGhee as the Alabama Male Athlete of the Year for the 2021-22 school year due to his success in both sports.
