Martin Scorsese Will Join the Marrakech Film Festival as Its Patron in 2023

Martin Scorsese recently said that he was happy to be the official patron of the Atlas Workshops at the future Marrakech International Film Festival.

Variety says that the sixth Atlas Workshops will take place from November 27 to 30, and the 20th Marrakech International Film Festival will take place from November 24 to December 2.

Atlas Workshops is a program that helps new filmmakers from Morocco, Arab countries, and Africa. In the last five years, it has supported 111 movie projects, 48 of which were from Morocco.

Martin said in a press release that was shared by Variety, “I am always happy to be returning to my beloved Marrakech Film Festival. When I haven’t been able to attend in person, I’ve always been there in spirit.”

“For this very special anniversary edition of the festival, I have been entrusted with a precious task; to interact with young filmmakers and help to guide them on their way. I look forward to seeing old friends, and to making new ones,” said the famous movie director.

This year, the Atlas workshops helped fund four movies that were shown at Cannes in different genres.

They were The Mother of All Lies by Asmae El Moudir from Morocco, Hounds by Kamal Lazraq, Inshallah a Boy by Amjad Al Rasheed from Jordan, which was shown during Critics’ Week, and Deserts by Faouzi Bensadi from Morocco.
