The Rochester City School District is mourning the loss of a teacher killed in a crash Thursday morning in Genesee County.
Deputies responded to Route 19 in LeRoy just after 7 a.m. for a report of a single-vehicle crash.
Investigators determined Judith Purdy, 58, was northbound when her car hit a deer that entered the roadway from the east shoulder. Purdy was pronounced dead at the scene.
The school district confirmed Purdy was a teacher at Abraham Lincoln School No. 22 for more than 20 years and was on her way to work when she killed.
“She was kind and caring, and her students and colleagues loved her dearly,” the district said in a statement. “Her contributions to our district will have a long-lasting impact, and she will be incredibly missed.”
The district said its trauma, illness and grief team is providing support to students and staff.
