Tupac Shakur, a rapper, actor, activist, and cultural icon, is getting a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame. Tupac was killed in Las Vegas while he was in a car in September 1996. He had turned 25. His rise to fame was fast, and even though his career was short, he is now one of the most admired and praised people in hip-hop and pop culture in general. Five years after the release of his first record in 1991, he starred in six movies, put out four full-length studio albums, and won many awards. He was both a voice for the people and a rebel. Depending on who you ask, this could be good or bad. In just the last year, a 20,000-square-foot interactive museum about his life and work and a five-part docuseries on FX called Dear Mama about his relationship with his mother, Afeni Shakur, were both released. Now, he’s going to be set in cement.

CBS News says that Sekyiwa “Set” Shakur, who is Shakur’s sister, will accept the award on June 7 on Hollywood Boulevard. The event took place nine days before Tupac would have turned 52. His star will be put in the “Recording” group. Other famous people who will be there include radio star Big Boy, who will host the event, and Dear Mama director Allen Hughes, who will give a speech.

“Tupac Shakur was a rapper, actor, activist, poet, and revolutionary,” said Ana Martinez, who is in charge of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “This iconic artist has continued to be part of the zeitgeist for decades after his passing and will continue to be an important cultural figure for many years to come.”

Hughes told PopCulture about Tupac’s impact, “I think the thing that I realized recently that makes him almost biblical is that you can project whatever you want into him,” he said. “Unlike any figure from the 20th century, if you want to see a lover, you’ll see a lover. If you want to see a fighter, you see a fighter. If you want to see a saint, you’ll see a saint. If you want to see a sinner, you’ll see a sinner, poet, prophet, whatever you want to see, like the Bible, Tupac will be there for you.”
