COLUMBIA, Mo. – Behind a career-high 31 points from Ashton Judd, University of Missouri Women’s Basketball cruised past Indiana State, 98-57 on Thursday night in Mizzou Arena.
Judd was the story from the opening tip, as the sophomore achieved her career-best total behind seven 3-pointers. The sophomore also added two rebounds and dished out two assists in the win.
Freshman Grace Slaughter impressed for a second-conscutive game as she followed up her double-double debut with a 17-point performance.
Freshman Abbey Schreacke had a breakout performance off the bench with 17 points in just her second collegiate contest. Schreacke also totaled four rebounds and four assists in 24 minutes of game action.
Judd opened the scoring in the game, hitting a three on the Tigers’ first possession. She would continue to take over the game early, registering 13 points less than five minutes into the contest, giving the Tigers a 15-4 lead halfway through the first quarter. Indiana State would draw within three late in the frame, but a pair of baskets by Angelique Ngalakulondi would send Mizzou into the first break with a two-possession lead, 21-16
The second quarter would open with both teams trading points early, before the Tigers would take over, going on a 20-2 run that would span the next six-and-a-half minutes and expand their lead from five to 23. During the run, seven different Tigers added points, including a pair of layups for Slaughter. Entering into the half, Mizzou held a commanding 49-28 lead, as well as out-rebounding and out-assisting the Sycamores.
Coming out of the break, Mizzou would force two quick turnovers as Judd would control the on-court play once again, knocking down four threes and a contested jumper as the Tigers outscored Indiana State 28-16 in the quarter. Mizzou hit seven consecutive shots from the field in the frame, using the hot streak to take a 77-44 lead heading into the fourth.
Slaughter and Schreacke opened the scoring in the fourth, as the freshman duo knocked down the Tigers’ first six shots, including two Schreacke threes. Missouri’s defense locked in as well, forcing Indiana State into a 1-for-11 shooting streak down the stretch. The effort propelled Missouri to a 21-13 advantage in the fourth and led to the games final tally.
Mizzou doubled up Indiana State in buckets, 36-18, converting on 58 percent of their attempts from the field. The Tigers took care of the glass on both sides of the court as well, grabbing 33 defensive rebounds and logging 34 points in the paint. Unselfish play aided the effort as Missouri dished out 27 assists and finished with a positive assist-to-turnover ratio.
