ROSEBURG, Ore. – Firefighters in Roseburg had some special visitors earlier this week as Wildlife Safari in Winston brought their two new baby cheetahs by for a meet and greet on Wednesday afternoon.
As it turns out, dalmatians are not the only spotted animals that love firefighters, as the furry visitors had an opportunity on November 8 to check out the Roseburg Fire Department’s fire trucks and get lots of attention from Roseburg Public Safety Center personnel. Wildlife Safari staffers were taking the two young cubs around the community to get them socialized with new experiences as part of their training to become wildlife ambassadors. Firefighters and staff also had the opportunity to learn more about the species and related conservation efforts.
According to their website, Wildlife Safari has successfully bred 241 cheetahs since 1972 and is the top breeding center in the western hemisphere. Native to Africa, cheetahs can run as far as 70 miles per hour and are considered a vulnerable species due to habitat loss, poaching and hunting by farmers protecting their livestock, Wildlife Safari said.
