Hot Springs Music Club presents ‘Spotlight on American Music’ today

The Hot Springs Music Club will host a free public program spotlighting American music at 2 p.m. today at the Atrium at Serenity Pointe, 2803 Albert Pike Road.

The program will open with the singing of the Hymn of the Month, “Immortal Love, Forever Full” “with text by the eminent American poet John Greenleaf Whittier.” The remainder of the program will feature pianist Sigilda Naidin playing “Toccata alla Tarantella” by Dennis Alexander, basso profundo Jerry Jones singing “Old Man River” from the 1928 musical “Showboat,” and a variety of barbershop favorites from the Fun City Chorus directed by Steve Spakes, a news release said.

“The mission of the Hot Springs Music Club is to showcase to its members and the community at large a diversity of musical styles and genres. In addition, it raises money to provide scholarships to Garland County students pursuing music-related degrees in higher education,” the release said.

HSMC has been affiliated since its inception in 1951 with the National Federation of Music Clubs and the Arkansas Federation of Music Clubs.
