Saturday Night Live’s Satirical Treatment of Britney Spears’ ‘Suffering’ Has Been Widely Criticized

On the heels of Britney Spears’s newly released biography, Saturday Night Live provoked outrage for reportedly making fun of her.

Timothee Chalamet hosted the most recent episode of the comedic skit show, while pop band Boygenius served as the musical guest.

One of the sketches appeared to mock the Toxic hitmaker’s personal troubles, which she recounted in her memoir, The Woman in Me, which was published last month.

It featured a cast of actors and actresses being mocked by Chalamet and Chloe Fineman as they read false parts from Spears’ memoir during an audition to voice the audiobook.

Fineman portrayed Julia Fox and Timothee Chalamet, while the Dune actor played Martin Scorsese. Among those who appeared were Sarah Sherman as comedian John Mulaney, Molly Kearney as actor Kevin James, and Ego Nwodim as Jada Pinkett Smith.

Needless to say, many were not pleased with the representation of the entire saga, with many labeling it “tone deaf.”

“Yeah no, like I’m sure their intentions are in the right place but this is no SNL joking matter,” a user on X, formerly Twitter, remarked.

“There are things you shouldn’t parody…one of them being another person’s trauma,” sneered another.

“Not only was the sketch disrespectful but just plain unfunny… like actually dreadful to watch,” a third person commented.
