BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Boston University senior forward Caitlin Weimar was named Patriot League PenFed Credit Union Women’s Basketball Player of the Week when the League office announced the first set of weekly accolades on Monday. Army West Point freshman Kya Smith earned rookie of the week.
Weimar averaged 20.5 points, 13 rebounds, and 1.5 steals on 58.3 percent shooting as BU started the year 2-0 for the first time in three seasons.
Smith scored 18 points in her collegiate debut for the Black Knights, tying teammate Reese Ericson for the most points scored in a home opener in 17 years by an Army women’s basketball player.
Army junior guard Trinity Hardy, Colgate junior guard Taylor Golembiewski, Holy Cross senior guard Bronagh Power-Cassidy, and Loyola Maryland junior forward Lex Therien received honorable mentions.
The Patriot League women’s basketball players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

PenFed Credit Union Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Caitlin Weimar, Boston University, Sr., F, Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson
* Weimar led the Terriers in scoring, rebounding, and field goal percentage as BU started the year 2-0 for the first time in three seasons.
* The senior averaged 20.5 points, 13 rebounds, and 1.5 steals on 58.3 percent shooting. Weimar also went 13-for-17 from the charity stripe in the two contests.
* In the season opener against UMass Lowell, she dropped a career-high 33 points on 12-of-19 shooting, including a game-winning buzzer-beater in the 60-58 win. That effort was tied for the second-highest-scoring performance in Division I on the opening night of the season.
* She then tallied eight points, 14 rebounds and two blocks in a 56-47 triumph over New Hampshire.
PenFed Credit Union Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week
Kya Smith, Army West Point, Fr., F, Lubbock, Texas/Coronado High School
* Smith scored 18 points in her collegiate debut against NJIT as she tied teammate Reese Ericson for the most points by an Army women’s basketball player in a home opener in 17 years.
* She posted a double-double on Sunday against Marist with 12 points and 10 boards.

* Hardy scored double-digits in three-straight games against NJIT (17 points), Marist (17 points) and Fairleigh Dickinson (20 points), to go with 11 steals.
Bronagh Power-Cassidy, Holy Cross, Sr., G, Dublin, Ireland/Marianapolis
* Power-Cassidy averaged a team-high 18.0 points with 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists for the Crusaders this past week while shooting 40 percent (14-for-35) from the field, 36.4 percent (4-for-11) from deep and 100 percent (4-for-4) at the line.
Taylor Golembiewski, Colgate, Jr.., G, Columbia, Conn./Edwin O. Smith
* Golembiewski helped the Raiders to their first 2-0 start since 2019-20 as the junior guard averaged 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.0 assist per game. She was the game’s leading scorer in both games, including a 22-point performance in Colgate’s 71-60 season-opening win over Cornell.
Lex Therien, Loyola Maryland, Jr.., F, Marlton, N.J./Cherokee
* Therien scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against West Virginia, before scoring 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in the win over Binghamton.
