Xiaomi’s first car model included in MIIT’s catalog


Shanghai (Gasgoo)- In a groundbreaking move, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi’s foray into the automotive sector has been solidified with the inclusion of its first car, the SU7, in the latest batch of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (“MIIT”)’s new vehicle catalog. Positioned as an all-electric sedan, the SU7 bears the Xiaomi brand.

The mystery surrounding Xiaomi’s automotive manufacturing qualifications, coupled with the absence of any official announcements to date, adds an air of intrigue to this development. According to the MIIT, Xiaomi’s car-making entity is registered as Beijing Automotive Group Off-Road Vehicle Co., Ltd., unmistakably bearing the tag “Beijing Xiaomi.”

As for the product details, the single-motor version of Xiaomi’s debut model boasts dimensions of 4,997mm/1,963mm/1,455mm (length/width/height), a wheelbase of 3,000mm, and a total weight of 2,430kg, with approach and departure angles of 14 and 16 degrees, respectively. The dual-motor variant shares the same dimensions in length and width, but with a slightly lower height at 1,440mm and a higher total weight of 2655kg, featuring approach and departure angles of 13 and 16 degrees.

In terms of performance, the single-motor version delivers a peak power of 220kW, achieving a top speed of 210km/h. It is equipped with lithium iron phosphate batteries supplied by BYD’s FinDreams Battery and a powertrain provided by Xiaomi Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. Additionally, it incorporates the ABS technology from Bosch.

The dual-motor version impresses with peak powers of 220kW and 275kW for the front and rear motors, resulting in a combined peak power of 495kW and a top speed of 265km/h. It utilizes ternary lithium batteries supplied by CATL, complemented by Bosch’s ABS.
