Know before you go: The Magic City Nutcracker
The Magic City Nutcracker is a community-based production of the classic ballet. For the 10th annual production, MCPA is bringing six beautiful and unforgettable performances to Birmingham.
Plus, MCPA added a show for Greater Birmingham school groups. Children will have the chance to meet the dancers and take part in Q&A after the performance.
A limited number of tickets for this special performance are available for public sale.
10 years of The Magic City Nutcracker
The Magic City Nutcracker was established in 2012 by Stephanie Frances, Kelly Avery, Angel White and Leslie DuPont.
Their vision was simple and community-oriented: create a version of the traditional ballet The Nutcracker, with the entire cast comprised of local community dancer talent.
Now, 10 years later and a passion for dance, philanthropy and local arts, the directors and artistic staff have inspired generations of artists to pursue their passions. In 2021, the dance company officially became Magic City Performing Arts.
MCPA is a proud recipient of a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, and their work would not be possible without the help from generous sponsors—Andrews Sports Medicine, Engineering Design Group, Jeffrey Dungan Architects and many more.
“We are so thankful for the support from our city, and it inspires us to elevate our performances and bring our love of dance to audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
Our original version of this ballet features a role named Christmas Spirit that personifies the warmth and generosity of the season, and it’s that joy we hope to bring to the stage this and every year.”
Stephanie Rangel, Artistic Director, MCPA

MCPA has given me so many opportunities to grow and audition for summer programs in Alabama and nationally with other professionals. I love dance and MCPA gives me a way to share my love of dance with others.”
Gradie Lowery, MCPA Dancer
MCPA is known for engaging performances year-round including the free Ballet in the Park. Plus, their spring 2024 show Don Quixote is already in the works.
