Weather Talk: Holiday travel forecast
WITH METEOROLOGIST TONY PANN. ALL RIGHT. WE ARE OFFICIALLY EIGHT DAYS FROM THANKSGIVING, SO PEOPLE ARE STARTING TO THINK ABOUT GETTING IN THE CAR, GETTING TO THE AIRPORT. YEAH, A LOT OF PEOPLE SAY, YOU KNOW, TAKE THE WHOLE WEEK, RIGHT? SO TRAVEL PLANS, WHAT DO WE THINK WE’RE ONLY A WEEK AWAY FROM THE BUSIEST TRAVEL DAY OF THE YEAR RIGHT. WE’RE GOING TO TAKE AN EARLY LOOK AT THE TRAVEL WEATHER. BY THE WAY. WELCOME BACK. HEY, THANKS. YEAH, YEAH, YEAH. SHE’S BEEN GONE FOR. FOR A WHILE. WE’RE HAPPY YOU’RE BACK. YES. I ALMOST FORGOT HOW TO DO THIS. WELCOME BACK. ALL RIGHT, SO LET’S TALK ABOUT IT. WE’RE GOING TO START WITH MONDAY. IF YOU’RE GETTING OUT OF TOWN THIS NATIONAL VIEW, OF COURSE. SO IF YOU’RE TRAVELING FOR THE HOLIDAY WEEK, YOU’LL SEE WHAT’S HAPPENING AROUND THE COUNTRY. I THINK ON MONDAY FOR THE MOST PART, THINGS WILL BE PRETTY QUIET. THERE’LL BE A STORM DEVELOPING IN THE CENTRAL PART OF THE COUNTRY. THAT’S EVENTUALLY GOING TO CAUSE SOME TROUBLE ON THE EAST COAST. BUT ON MONDAY, NEXT WEEK, JUST SOME RAIN DOWN ALONG THE MISSISSIPPI VALLEY, MAYBE SOME SNOW AROUND DENVER IF YOU’RE HEADING TO THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS. BUT AS WE HEAD INTO TUESDAY, THAT STORM WILL START TO GET ORGANIZED AND IT WILL BEGIN TO PUSH TO THE EAST. WHILE MOST OF THE WEST COAST, I THINK, IS GOING TO BE FAIRLY QUIET, THE EASTERN HALF OF THE COUNTRY IS GOING TO BE A LITTLE ROUGH. I THINK ON TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY, HEADING TOWARDS THE HOLIDAY. LOOKS LIKE MOST OF THE SNOW WOULD BE CONFINED UP TO THE GREAT LAKES. BUT THERE COULD BE SOME HEAVY RAIN IN THE OHIO VALLEY AND MAYBE SOME SEVERE WEATHER DOWN ALONG THE GULF COAST. SOME BIG THUNDERSTORMS. FLORIDA AND MAYBE UP INTO GEORGIA AND SOUTH AND NORTH CAROLINA AS WE PROGRESS INTO WEDNESDAY, THAT STORM WILL HEAD OVER TO THE COAST. THERE COULD EVEN BE SOME HEAVY RAIN AROUND BALTIMORE AND SOME SNOW IN THE MOUNTAINS. WESTERN MARYLAND AND MAYBE WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA. THIS PARTICULAR MODEL, THIS IS THE GFS HAS THE SNOW EXTENDING UP TOWARDS THE DETROIT AND CLEVELAND AND CINCINNATI. AGAIN, FROM THERE WEST, THE WEATHER WILL BE PRETTY QUIET. THE WEST COAST WILL BE FINE. IT’LL BE COLD IN THE MIDWEST, BUT IT SHOULD BE QUIET. TEMPERATURES IN THE 20S ON WEDNESDAY NEXT WEEK AROUND CHICAGO. SO IF YOU’RE HEADING TO CHICAGO, MINNEAPOLIS, MILWAUKEE, TAKE THE WINTER GEAR WITH YOU. AND THIS IS THANKSGIVING DAY. THAT STORM WILL START TO PULL OUT. THERE COULD BE SOME LEFTOVER RAIN AND SNOW, BUT WE EXPECT HIGH TEMPERATURES HERE IN BALTIMORE TO STAY IN THE 40S. IT’LL BE IN THE 30S FOR PARTS OF THE UPPER MIDWEST AND A LITTLE BIT WARMER ALONG THE WEST COAST. OF COURSE, WE’RE GOING TO KEEP YOU UPDATED
