43-year-old man killed by carjacker who stole victim’s vehicle and ran him over in Queens

Queens car break-in ends with victim fatally struck

QUEENS, New York (WABC) — A man was struck and killed after attempting to stop two suspects from breaking into his car in Queens on Wednesday.

The deadly incident happened just after 3 p.m. at 85th Street and 25th Avenue near Gorman Park in East Elmhurst.

Police say a 43-year-old man was at the intersection when he discovered two suspects breaking into his white Toyota Highlander parked on the street.

A witness told Eyewitness News reporter Sonia Rincon that somebody heard the sound of glass shattering and yelled out to the owner that someone was trying to break into his car.

They say the suspects got into their own vehicle, a white BMW, to flee the scene.

The owner then ran over and tried to stop them by climbing onto the side of the BMW as it fled. He was thrown from the vehicle and struck

Surveillance video shows that white BMW speeding away and neighbors running over to help the injured man.

The victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police are looking for the suspects who fled in the BMW.

There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
