EAST ELMHURST, Queens (PIX11) — A man was killed during an attempted robbery in Queens on Wednesday, according to police.
The 43-year-old victim was found with a head injury after a call of a person hit by a car near 85th Street and 25th Avenue around 3 p.m., officials said.
The victim saw a man trying to break into his car to steal a package, according to police. The man went to his car, which caused the alleged thief to leave the area. While trying to leave the area in another vehicle, the car hit the victim, police told PIX11 News.
Video showed the victim hanging onto the hood of a BMW for a few feet before being thrown into Hugo Dutan’s Cadillac Escalade.
“He went flying against my car,” said Dutan. “The head hit the front wheel, the right-hand side tire.”
Kevin Gonzalez and his friends saw the entire grand theft ordeal while playing volleyball as the man tried in vain to catch them.
“They broke the window of the car and tried to take something from it,” Gonzalez told PIX11 News. “He noticed it was his car came and basically tried to stop it latched onto the car, and it happened quickly…a couple of us tried to chase down the car, but they sped off.”
The victim was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
Detectives said the suspects were driving a white BMW sedan with a Massachusetts license plate.
Crime scene investigators spent the evening collecting evidence, hoping it would lead them to the people who left a man to die.
