Louisiana is known for so many things like the outdoors, food, music, and culture. What a lot of people forget about here is that Louisiana is the birthplace of many major celebrities.
Having lived here my whole life, I was unaware that some of my favorite celebrities were born right here in “The Boot.”
While we may not get to every celebrity ever born in Louisiana, let’s take a look at some that technically call Louisiana home.
Did you know that Jerry Lee Lewis was born in Louisiana? He was born in Ferriday, Louisiana in 1935.
One of our hometown heroes, Dustin Poirer, was born in Lafayette, LA, and continues to serve his community through various charitable organizations. He is Lafayette!
Louis Armstrong was born in New Orleans, La., and dropped out of school at an early age to go to work. He since has become a musical icon.
Payton and Eli Manning both were born in New Orleans and attended high school in the city. They’d each go their way in college but still refer to New Orleans as home.
Britney Spears, a pop icon, was born in Kentwood, LA. Her musical career started at a young age and she quickly climbed to stardom in the music industry.
Don Lemon, who was once the face of CNN, was born in Baton Rouge, LA.
Odelle Beckham Jr. was born in Baton Rouge and attended Isidore Newman School in New Orleans, Louisiana. He would go on to play for the LSU Tigers and was drafted by the New Yorks Giants where is fame rose after one phenomenal catch.
Dak Prescott, the Quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, was born in Shreveport, LA. He played his college ball in Mississippi, but today has “Louisiana” tattooed across his throwing arm.
Angela Kinsey was born in Lafayette, LA. Her family moved overseas when she was two and she would later become an actress and play a huge role in the sitcom titled “The Office.”
Country singer Tim McGraw was born in Delhi, Louisiana. An icon in the music industry, McGraw still comes home to northeast Louisiana.
Another country music icon born in Louisiana is Hank Williams Jr. He was born in Shreveport, LA. Much of his years as kid were spent in Nashville with his father.
Richard Simmons, who has been a ball of energy from day one, was born in New Orleans, LA. He became a television icon with his exercise videos.
Harry Connick Jr., who some say is the son of New Orleans, started his musical career at a very young age and rose to fame in his respective industry. He still plays a vital role in the community of New Orleans
Ellen Degeneres was born in Metairie, LA. She was an up-and-coming comedian who scored many gigs on television before landing her own popular talk show.
Tyler Perry Jr. is another celebrity who was born in New Orleans. At the age of sixteen, he changed his first name to Tyler to disassociate himself from his abusive father.
Randy Jackson, who many know from American Idol, is a successful musician from Baton Rouge.
Terry Bradshaw, who now works for FOX Sports, was born in Shreveport, LA. He played his college football at La Tech.
Miss American Ali Landry was born in Breaux Bridge, LA and she rose to fame after a Doritto Chip commercial aired during the Super Bowl. She lives in Los Angeles but is known to return “home” throughout the year.
Carl Weathers, who many know as Appolo Creed from the Rocky movies, was born in New Orleans and was a great athlete in his younger days.
Rapper Lil Wayne was born in New Orleans and is one of the most successful rappers of all time. Being from New Orleans you’d think he loves the Saints, but he’s actually a huge Green Bay Packers fan.
Some say she may be the most popular person ever born in Louisiana. Resse Witherspoon, who is an accomplished actress, was born in New Orleans but spent much of her childhood years in Nashville, TN.
So, there you have it. These are just SOME of the celebrities who were born in Louisiana. What would be interesting is to ask each one if they still refer to Louisiana as home.
