Men’s Basketball Takes Down Presbyterian College Friday Evening, 80-66 – University of Maine Athletics


Jacksonville, FL – The University of Maine men’s basketball team wins their second-game of the UNF MTE Tournament, third of the season as they take down Presbyterian College, 80-66.
 
Both sides got out to a slow start from the field as only 4 of the first 14 field goals found the bottom of net for the two sides. Peter Filipovity started the contest a perfect 3-for-3 from the field as he had six points in the first five minutes, four of which came on second-chance opportunities.
 
Both sides remain within a single basket of each other throughout the first half of the contest, with Filipovity scoring the first 10 points for the Black Bears.
 
Maine took the first lead of the night that was larger than a single bucket as they took a 20-15 lead with 6:59 remaining in the first half.
 
Ja’Shonté Wright-McLeish became just the 20th Black Bear to eclipse 100-career three-pointers as he hit his second of the night with four minutes remaining in the first half.
 
Maine pushed their lead to the largest of the first half at 29-20 with 2:14 remaining in the first half before Presbyterian made it a little closer of a contest entering halftime at 32-25.
 
Filipovity led all scorers with 12 points in the first half of action. He shot 5-for-6 from the field and a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line.
 
Wright-McLeish (6) and AJ Lopez (6) rounded out the top-three scorers for the Black Bears.
 
Maine’s defense forced nine turnovers and only allowed 10 field goals in the first half.
 
Maine continued to hold their lead throughout the second half as they never trailing in the second half in route to their win of the season following the victory over Presbyterian College, 80-66.
 
Peter Filipovity led all scorers as he set a new career-high with 19 points in the win on a nearly perfect shooting day as he went 7-for-8 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
 
Kellen Tynes finished with 18 points, four rebounds and four assists. AJ Lopez scored 17 points for the Black Bears to round out the top-three scorers in the winning performance.
 
Maine (3-2) looks to sweep the UNF MTE as they take on UNF on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 5 P.M.
