‘Unimaginable’: Florida mom strangled 8-year-old son then ran errands…

A Florida mom has confessed to strangling her 8-year-old son while he slept — then driving around running errands with his body in her car, according to cops who called it “unimaginable.”

Shaneka Ann McKinzie, 36, was arrested after taking her son, Jaisyn Burgos, to a Miami hospital where he was declared dead late Tuesday, Miami-Dade Police said.

“The mother confessed to investigators that for the past two days she plotted to kill her child,” police said while announcing a first-degree murder charge.

“She further described that while the child was asleep in the rear passenger seat of her vehicle, she used a tablecloth to suffocate and strangle him until he became unresponsive.

“She then proceeded to drive around various parts of the county conducting errands with her unconscious child’s body in the vehicle,” the department said.

An autopsy confirmed the boy had been strangled. He had not been enrolled in school since his mom had brought him to Miami from Missouri a year earlier, according to NBC Miami, which said the boy’s father had died a few years before.

“It’s very difficult to wrap your head around how a parent could not only plan to murder their child but then after carrying out this murder go on about their day as if nothing happened,” Detective Andre Martin told the outlet.

“To drive around with their child’s lifeless body and complete various errands as if nothing ever happened. It’s unimaginable.”

She was ordered held without bond and was appointed a public defender at an initial court appearance Thursday, NBC Miami noted.
