Two Moody High School girls basketball players could face assault charges following a fight during a game in McAllen


McAllen ISD Community Information Specialist Mark May said that officials quickly responded to the fight.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Two Moody High School girls basketball players could face assault charges following a fight during a game in McAllen. 

The Lady Trojans played Laredo Nixon during their game Friday at the Border Bash Tournament in the Rio Grande Valley. 

Video shared with 3NEWS shows a Moody girls player running across the court after a Laredo Nixon player, following her off the court, and a fight ensuing between the two. It is unclear what led to the incident.

McAllen ISD Community Information Specialist Mark May said that officials quickly responded to the fight, regained control of the game and declared Nixon the game’s winner. Moody has withdrawn from the tournament and returned home.

While no arrests were made at the game, May said a Laredo Nixon player plans to press charges in the matter.
