HUNTSVILLE | The No. 23 UAH men’s basketball team fell in its home-opening contest to No. 6 Lincoln Memorial by a final score of 95-90 on Friday night at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on the first day of action for the 2023 Bill Penney Classic. UAH slides to 1-2, while LMU improves to 3-1.
Junior Tommy Murr led the way for the Chargers in the nationally-ranked matchup with a team-high 30 points as he went 10-for-20 from the field and 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. He additionally added four assists, while being the first UAH player to eclipse 30 points in a game since Max Shulman‘s 31 points on Feb. 8, 2023.
Head coach John Shulman‘s squad saw three more players reach double-digit points on the night, with Luke Burnett (16 points), Daniel Saylor (11 points) and Jack Kostel (10 points) joining Murr in double-figures.
Kostel had a strong overall performance as well, posting a team-high six rebounds and six assists. He also played a roster-leading 33 minutes on the night.
UAH was dialed in from long distance, going 16-for-31 on three-pointers on Friday night. Burnett sank a team-high four threes, while Dane Harding went a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
The Chargers are back in action on Saturday for the final day of the 2023 Bill Penney Classic, as Edward Waters and Young Harris tip off first at 2 p.m. followed by UAH and Fisk at 4 p.m.
