Mads Mikkelsen’s ‘Bastarden’ Debut SAG-AFTRA Appearance Is Unforgettable

The opening of Mads Mikkelsen’s new movie, Bastarden (The Promised Land), took place at the Venice Film Festival on Friday. He was there for a short time, but it was memorable.

Few American and British stars came to the red carpet event because they didn’t want to break the SAG-AFTRA strikes that are still going on.

Mikkelsen looked very smooth and cool in a white suit jacket and smart black pants.

He finished off his look with a clean white shirt and a matched dickie bow, which made him stand out as one of the few famous people there with his co-stars.

In the historical drama Bastarden, the Hannibal actor plays Ludvig Kahlen, a man from a poor background who rises to the rank of captain and earns military praise in Denmark in the middle of the 18th century.

This year, there aren’t as many stars on the red carpet of the event because only a few independent productions were allowed to use their stars.

Monday, organizers of the Venice Film Festival announced that Adam Driver and Jessica Chastain are two of the few people who will still be there.

Variety says that a certain list of films having their world premieres at Venice have gotten SAG-AFTRA interim waivers because they are independent projects that are not part of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).
