A tow truck driver was pushed off of an overpass and fell 25 feet when an SUV crashed into a car he was trying to tow in Hamden on Friday night, police said.
The tow truck operator, 23-year-old Robert Douglas from Ansonia, was trying to tow a Nissan Altima from the area of Route 15 northbound at 7:46 p.m. Friday, according to Connecticut State Police.
The tow truck was stopped just south of Exit 60 in Hamden with its emergency lights on when a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a man from Spring Valley, New York, veered to the right to avoid another vehicle that was slowing down, state police said.
He struck the car that was being towed, pushing it into the flatbed of the tow truck, according to state police.
Douglas fell off the edge of the overpass into a section of grass on Circular Avenue about 25 feet below, state police said.
He suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The driver of the Nissan and the driver of the Jeep also sustained minor injuries, according to state police.
The man driving the Jeep, 33-year-old Kesnel Menard, was issued an infraction for failure to maintain proper lane, state police said.
