NC State women’s cross country takes third-straight national title

Wolfpack women’s cross country has done it once again, securing the NCAA Championship for the third year in a row. The No. 2-ranked NC State squad took first place over No. 1 Northern Arizona by a one-point margin.

NC State women’s cross country pulled together an excellent season, placing first in all but one of its races as a team. After securing an eighth-consecutive ACC Championship title, the red-and-white moved on to take home its seventh-consecutive NCAA Regionals title. The Pack had plenty of momentum and high expectations when it traveled to Charlottesville, Virginia for the national championship race.

Senior Katelyn Tuohy was the top runner for NC State. Tuohy recorded a time of 19:23.0 and placed fifth overall. Her time was faster than her NCAA Championship 6k in 2022, but after falling behind about halfway through the race, she had to fight for the fifth spot.

Junior Amaris Tyynismaa placed 25th with a time of 19:55.3 and senior Sam Bush took 28th place with a time of 20:00.07. Freshman Leah Stephens ran for a time of 20:08.2, taking 43rd place. In 63rd place was sophomore Grace Hartman with a time of 20:24.4. Sophomore Hannah Gapes finished 73rd with a time of 20:30.2 and senior Gionna Quarzo followed behind in 102nd pace, finishing with a time of 20:41.4.

The NC State men’s team also sent a squad to run in Charlottesville for the 10k race. The Pack took 17th overall. There were two Wolfpack runners who placed in the top-100. Senior Brett Gardner ran for a time of 30:00.1, putting him in 51st. In 71st was graduate student Hannes Burger, running with a time of 30:16.1.

Graduate student Toby Gualter finished in 102nd place, and Senior Daniel McGoey wasn’t far behind in 112th. Seniors Ian Harrison and Zach Hughes brought up the rear for NC State, placing 190st and 192nd, respectively.
