Men’s Basketball Unable To Chop Down Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – University of Chicago men’s basketball opened their season with a successful 2-0 record at the Midway Classic last weekend and won their road opener against Edgewood but now needed to see what they could do against Lake Forest College. The Maroons didn’t have an answer for an impressive first half offensive performance by the Foresters and couldn’t make up enough ground in the second in a 14-point loss on Saturday afternoon.

FINAL SCORE
UChicago – 75
Lake Forest – 89

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • University of Chicago (3-1) kept things close for the first few minutes in their contest against Lake Forest (2-2) before the Foresters caught fire the rest of the period. Up 5-4 after two minutes of play, LFC went on a 40-24 run in the last 18 minutes of the half behind a lights out 70.8 shooting percentage from the field to take a 17-point lead into the break.
  • The Maroons didn’t go quietly though and picked things back up in the second frame. The UChicago defense shaved 20 percentage points off the Lake Forest shooting totals in the last half of the contest and bumped their own up by about the same margin with 20 made field goals in 36 chances.
  • However, the adjustments made still weren’t enough to get the UChicago deficit below double digits. Five Maroon players had at least 10 points with Joe Berry leading them with 16 in their first defeat of the 2023-24 season.
