First Alert Forecast: Chillier and dry Sunday, rain and storms return Tuesday


ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – This weekend has been a stunner and will end on a pleasant note, weather-wise. Big changes are on the way. A large, impactful storm system will impact holiday travel leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Under lots of sunshine, temperatures are forecast to gradually cool back through the 60s after a peak temperatures around 70° in Atlanta. After sunset, clouds stream back into north Georgia. It’ll be milder than Saturday evening, thanks in part to increasing cloudiness. You may still want a light jacket as temperatures settle back into the upper 50s and lower 60s late this evening across Metro Atlanta.

Monday begins much cloudier. Plan on a temperature in the low to mid-50s around Metro Atlanta before 8 a.m. Patchy fog is possible. Clouds increase through the morning hours. The sky becomes overcast during the afternoon. Spotty rain and patchy drizzle are possible. Initially, the greatest chance of rain is east of Atlanta. The chance of hit-or-miss wet weather increases closer to town during the late afternoon and evening hours.

Tuesday is a First Alert Weather Day. The timing of this storm system is not the best for those with holiday travel plans Tuesday. The risk of severe weather is quite low and rain is desperately needed. But, weather won’t be ideal for travel Tuesday. Keep a closer than normal eye on the forecast if plans take you abroad Tuesday. Rain may be heavy at times. A few thunderstorms are expected to be embedded within the rain. The greatest chance of wet weather builds in during the pre-dawn hours Tuesday and exits our area Tuesday evening. Chilly and dry weather Returns Wednesday.

Another storm system approaches Thanksgiving evening, into Black Friday. At least scattered rain is possible by the end of the workweek.
