Youth Performing Arts School covers many grown up topics in the funny musical, Urinetown

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Youth Performing Arts School’s (YPAS) latest production tackles many social topics.

WDRB’s Keith Kaiser joins the cast of Urinetown before their next performances.

Urinetown is a musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, environmental collapse, privatization of natural resources, bureaucracy, municipal politics, and musical theatre itself.

In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets.

The citizens must use public facilities.

The process is regulated by one company that profits by charging admission to the public rest rooms.

A hero emerges and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom.

Youth Performing Arts School trains, educates and nurtures today’s young talent to become tomorrow’s artists.

Students team with faculty, parents, professional artists, and community members to develop, perfect, and practice their craft.
