Worthington brothers offer car detailing services, window tinting

BREWSTER — What originally started as two brothers admiring each other’s automotive upkeep talents grew into two businesses for Worthington brothers Miguel and Alex Magaña. Alex’s business, Magañaz Tintz, opened in July 2022, while Miguel’s Speed Wipes Details celebrated its opening this spring.

Based in Alex’s Brewster home and primarily serving Nobles County residents, the brothers’ services have attracted customers from as far as Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to St. Peter. The elder, Alex, offers window tinting services for cars and residential properties through Magañaz Tintz. Miguel, meanwhile, offers car interior detailing services through his own separate business, Speed Wipes Details.

Miguel remembers tinting Alex’s car windows while Alex recalled his admiration for his brother’s thorough attention to detailing as being catalysts for the two starting their businesses.

“I had a Mustang GT and it was one of those deals where I was really young and I was like ‘I want tint’ but I couldn’t afford to drive an hour to the closest (place) and pay,” Miguel shared. “So then, he (Alex) was like ‘Well, I kinda wanna try tinting,’ so that’s kind of where it all started, that he tinted my car.”

After working to establish Magañaz Tintz, Alex realized Miguel had a gift for detailing cars and suggested he start his own business in addition to the two continuing to tint windows for homes, office buildings and cars.

“And then on the detailing side, since he had a nice car and he always kinda had a knack for keeping it clean, on the inside and out, people (say), ‘How do you keep your car clean? How is it so clean? Clean my car,’” Alex shared.

Ultimately, the brothers decided to each have their own business and “make it work.”

We have really high standards for our work, so that’s where that really comes into play, that we try to do everything… as close to perfect (as possible). If they’re not happy, they’re not gonna pay.

Miguel and Alex said their longtime residency in Nobles County (both brothers graduated from Worthington High School), their extensive history with automotive work and specialized training in California also make for important and enticing factors in acquiring local customers.

“We’re local, we grew up here. We always grew up taking care of cars,” Miguel said. “Every car that comes in, we treat it like it was our own, like it was our personal vehicle and we treat all cars with respect. We have really high standards for our work, so that’s where that really comes into play, that we try to do everything… as close to perfect (as possible). If they’re not happy, they’re not gonna pay.”

“We also both have a lot of time and money invested in training,” Alex said. “In the training, we spent thousands and thousands (of dollars) in getting the proper training and then in the customer service and the vehicles and all aspects of the business so we could come back and apply that here. That’s something that we started and then wanted to up our game, so we went to the Tintstitue in San Luis Obispo, California, so we can up our level on customer service and our skills in everything.”

Alex said they offer services seven days a week, which has been vital not only in maintaining their business but also in getting exposure in the area and bringing in more customers.

“We have some social media, but a lot of it’s word of mouth,” Alex said. “We stay busy seven days a week. A lot of that (is) word of mouth.”

Miguel said their confidence in and dedication to their meticulous work — and their affordability — is their biggest selling point when promoting their business and services.

“We never take down payments or ever take any ahead of time,” Miguel said. “We always wait until the customer sees it and once they see it, if they’re happy with it, then they’ll pay. If they’re not happy with it, they don’t pay. A lot of detailers don’t offer a $50 package and we try to give people the most opportunity. If you just want something super basic, I can give that to you. It doesn’t have to be a $200 detailing, it can be something as small as just a $50 detail.”
