
Is there a better way to help celebrate the Christmas season than by listening to some holiday music, especially if it’s live?
Perhaps, but we’d like to think it’s in the top five list of best things to do anyway.
And the good news is that there’s a plethora of concerts and other musical performances planned throughout the central Pennsylvania area over the next several weeks.
So without further ado, here’s a chronological list of all the musical events happening in Dauphin, Cumberland, Lancaster, York and other nearby counties that we could find.
A Charlie Brown Jazz Christmas with The Eric Mintel Jazz Quartet will be held at 8 p.m. Nov. 24 at The Englewood, 1219 W. End Ave., Hershey. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 the day of the show.
The Wizards of Winter will perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 24 at Mickey’s Black Box, 101 Rock Lititz Blvd., Lititz. Tickets are $43 and $61.
The York Symphony’s Holiday Pops Spectacular will take place at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Nov. 25 at the Appel Center for the Performing Arts, 50 N. George St., York. Assistant Conductor Rebekah O’Brien will give a pre-concert talk beforehand. Tickets start at $11.
A Canadian Brass Christmas will take place at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 28 at the Appel Center for the Performing Arts, 50 N. George St., York. Tickets start at $30.
Singer Sara Brightman will present “A Christmas Symphony” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30 at the Hershey Theatre, 15 E. Caracas Ave., Hershey. Tickets run from $65 to $145.
Singer Judy Collins will perform “An Evening of Hits and Holiday Classics” at 8 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Whitaker Center, 222 Market St., Harrisburg. Tickets are $39.50, $59.50 and $79.50.
The Lancaster Symphony Orchestra and the Lancaster Symphony Chorus will perform Handel’s “Messiah” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 and at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at First Presbyterian Church, 140 E. Orange St., Lancaster. Tickets are $60-$90 and can be purchased online or by calling 717-291-6440.
Musicians Kristen Albert, French Horn, Doug Albert, trumpet, and organist Larry Hershey will present “Advent Tidings” at 8 p.m. Dec. 1 at the First Reformed Church, 40 E. Orange St., Lancaster. Selections will include “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” and “What Child is This?”, as well as Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Wachet Auf” from Cantata 140. Info: 717-397-5149.
The Hershey Symphony Orchestra will present its Holiday Spectacular at 2 and 8 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Hershey Theatre, 15 E. Caracas Ave., Hershey. The Milton Hershey School choir and the Lower Dauphin High School choir will join the symphony on stage. Tickets are $22-$32. Concertgoers are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy or fresh produce to donate to Gemma’s Angels.
The Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra will present a Rodgers and Hammerstein Celebration at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2 and 3 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Forum, 500 Walnut St., Harrisburg. The performance will feature songs from such beloved musicals as “South Pacific,” “Carousel,” “The Sound of Music,” “The King and I,” and “Oklahoma!” Tickets run from $17 to $104.
A Holiday Celebration with Nathan and Claire Avakian will take place at 3 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Appel Center for the Performing Arts, 50 N. George St., York. Tickets are $15 or $7 for students.
The Glenn Miller Orchestra will bring its “In the Christmas Mood” show to the Luhrs Center, 475 Lancaster Drive, Shippensburg, at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5. Tickets are $25, $35, $45 and $55.
The a cappella group Pentatonix will bring its “Most Wonderful Tour of the Year” to the Giant Center in Hershey at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6. Tickets run from $64 to $499.
The indie trio Girl Named Tom will bring its “One More Christmas” tour to the Hershey Theatre, 15 E. Caracas Ave., Hershey, at 7 p.m. Dec. 8. The show is part of the Central Pa. Friends of Jazz fall concert series. Tickets run from $35 to $55.
The group Straight No Chaser will bring its “Sleighin’ It” tour to the Hershey Theatre, 15 E. Caracas Ave., at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 10. Tickets run from $36 to $66.
Jazz musician George Burdon will present “The Yule Log” at 3 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Rose Lehrman Arts Center, 1 Hacc Drive, Harrisburg. Tickets are $10-$30.
Joy to the Burg Live! will take place from 2-6 p.m. Dec. 10. at The Englewood, 1219 W. End Ave., Hershey. The show will feature performers from the Joy to the Burg 2023 album. Tickets are $10 or free for children 10 and under.
Derry Presbyterian Church, 248 E. Derry Road, Hershey, will present “Gaudete!” at 2 and 5 p.m. Dec. 10. The show will feature the Sanctuary Choir, Derry Ringers, a harp and orchestra. The 2 p.m. show will be streamed on YouTube.
Christmas in the Cloister will be held at 6:30 and 8 p.m. Dec. 11 and 12 at the Ephrata Cloister, 632 W. Main St. Ephrata. The program will feature the Ephrata Cloister Chorus under the direction of Mark Herr with guest musicians Randy Kochel and Amanda Wells performing on hammer dulcimer and guitar. Tickets are $8 and are required in advance. There will be cider and cookies in the visitor center after the concert.
The group Cherry Poppin’ Daddies will present its “Christmas Canteen” concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 14 t the Appel Center for the Performing Arts, 50 N. George St., York. Tickets start at $37.
The Susquehanna Chorale will present its Candlelight Christmas show at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 15 at the Calvin and Janet High Center for Performing Arts, Messiah University; at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16 at Leffler Chapel, Elizabethtown College; and at 4 p.m. Dec. 17 at Market Square Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg. A pre-recital concert by accompanist Daniel L. Dorty will begin 15 minutes before each performance. Tickets are $10-$30 and can be purchased online. Info: 717-691-6036.
The Trans-Siberian Orchestra will perform at 3 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 15 at the Giant Center in Hershey. Tickets range between $39 up to $109.
The Uptown Band’s Holiday Extravaganza show will take place at 7 p.m. Dec. 22 at the West Shore Theatre, 317 Bridge St., New Cumberland. Tickets are $25, $65 and $150.
The Cartoon Christmas Trio will perform at 1 p.m. Dec. 23 at Tellus 360, 24 E. King St., Lancaster. Tickets are $15.
