‘Our time here … has come to an end’: Jacksonville-area Mexican restaurant closes

After seven years of serving burritos, tacos, quesadillas and more, a Jacksonville-area fast-casual Mexican restaurant has abruptly closed its doors.

Burrito Gallery recently closed its Jacksonville Beach restaurant at 300 Beach Blvd. No. 1, according to a late-October social media post. No reason for the closure was given in the post that thanked customers as well as restaurant staff. Its owners couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.

Remaining open are Burrito Gallery restaurants at 90 Riverside Ave., No. 601, at Brooklyn Station, 21 E. Adams St. in downtown Jacksonville and 5016 Gate Parkway at Gateway Village at Town Center.

The Burrito Gallery, shown here in 2016, has closed after seven years in Jacksonville Beach.

Burrito Gallery joins a growing list of restaurants closing this year, including Brewer’s Pizza, Piccadilly Cafeteria, Cultural Kitchen & Catering, two longtime Burger King franchises and three Bojangles locations.

In announcing the closure, Burrito Gallery Jax Beach posted: “Our time here at the beach has come to an end,” and noted it was a difficult decision to make.

“We thank you all for your support of our restaurant. It has been a wonderful time at the beach, and we are excited for the future of Burrito Gallery in Jax and beyond,” the restaurant posted.

Founded in 2005, the original Burrito Gallery opened on East Adams Street downtown. The local chain expanded outward, opening the Beach Boulevard location in August 2016 after closing its prior express spot on Third Street in Jacksonville Beach.

The restaurant, however, plans to open a new location next year on Concourse B at Jacksonville International Airport, when the new concourse is completed.
